Sharing with Farmers Regarding Brown Planthopper Control
In commemoration of the 80th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia, the Department of Plant Protection, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Andalas carried out a Community Service activity with the Sekayan Farmer Group, Balai Gadang Village, Koto Tangah District - Padang, on Sunday morning, 17 August 2025.
The activity, which began at 09.00 WIB, opened solemnly by singing "Indonesia Raya" and "Bagimu Negeri". The atmosphere became even more lively with the spirit of togetherness between the academic community and the farmers. On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Ir. Trizelia, M.Si, was present as a speaker with the topic "Planthopper Control Using Entomopathogen Beauveria bassiana". In her presentation, she explained the potential of B. bassiana as an effective, environmentally friendly biological agent, and techniques for applying it to reduce planthopper attacks.
The participants seemed enthusiastic in following the material and discussing application methods, effectiveness, and strategies for utilizing B. bassiana in their rice fields. Through this discussion, it is hoped that farmers will be able to reduce dependence on chemical pesticides and switch to biological control which is safer for the environment and supports sustainable agriculture.
This activity is also a concrete manifestation of our commitment to supporting national food security through the application of science in the community.
