International Guest Lecture Discusses Anthracnose Disease in India and Indonesia

Padang, April 30, 2026 – Plant Protection Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Andalas successfully organized a Guest Lecture on Plant Protection Series entitled “Distribution and Management of Anthracnose Disease in India and Indonesia.” The event was conducted in a hybrid format at the Convention Hall of Agriculture and was attended by students, academics, and practitioners in the field of plant protection.
The event featured both international and national speakers, namely Dr. Utpal Dey from Central Agricultural University (India) and Prof. Dr. Nurbailis from Universitas Andalas. The session was moderated by Prof. Dr. Darnetty who facilitated an engaging and in-depth scientific discussion.
In her presentation, Prof. Nurbailis elaborated on the current status of anthracnose disease in Indonesia, particularly in horticultural crops, as well as the challenges associated with its management in the field. Meanwhile, Dr. Utpal Dey discussed the distribution of anthracnose disease in India and highlighted various management strategies, including environmentally based approaches and modern technological interventions.
In his opening remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Andalas, represented by Gusmini, Ph.D., emphasized that this activity is part of the institution’s internationalization efforts and capacity building in plant protection. She also underlined the importance of cross-country collaboration in addressing plant disease issues that have global significance.
Through this event, Plant Protection Department, Universitas Andalas, reaffirmed its commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and promoting sustainable agricultural practices, in line with the spirit of “Advancing Plant Protection for Sustainable Agriculture.”
