Rice Planthopper Bioecology Training with Dr. My Syahrawati

tRhe Food Crops and Horticulture Protection Center of West Sumatra once again organized a Training for expert farmers on Rice Planthopper Bioecology. The activity featured guest speaker Dr. My Syahrawati, Head of the Master Program in Plant Protection, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Andalas.
The training, held on Wednesday, 30 July 2025, aimed to enhance participants' understanding of the bioecological aspects of rice planthoppers, which have the potential to reduce productivity. In the training session, Dr. My Syahrawati presented on various planthopper species associated with rice plants, their behavior, virulence levels, influential environmental factors, and control techniques.
In addition to the material presentation, this training also included interactive discussions. Participants actively asked questions regarding ecology-based planthopper management strategies suitable for their respective local conditions. Dr. My Syahrawati emphasized that a deep understanding of rice planthopper bioecology is crucial for formulating effective, environmentally friendly, and sustainable control strategies.
This activity is expected to strengthen the capacity of participants as field practitioners in facing the challenge of rice planthopper attacks which often cause losses for farmers.
